# Charts, indicators and backtests

The **Charts & backtests** power lets an agent read a market the way a trader does, and test a rule against history before it risks anything. It is pure arithmetic: it places no orders and moves no money.

## What the agent can do

| Tool                | What it does                                                                                                                          |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `chart_indicators` | SMA 20/50, EMA 12/26, RSI 14, MACD, Bollinger bands, ATR, the 50-candle range, and plain-English reads (trend, stretched, momentum) |
| `backtest_strategy` | Replays a simple long-only rule on real past candles and reports return vs holding, max drawdown, trades, win rate and time in market |

Strategies: `buy_hold`, `sma_cross` (fast, slow), `rsi_reversion` (period, buyBelow, sellAbove), `breakout` (lookback).

## Where candles come from

A launchpad coin (its own indexed trades), Hyperliquid markets, DEX pools on GeckoTerminal, or CoinPaprika (paid key). Intervals: 5s, 30s, 1m, 5m, 15m, 1h, 4h, 12h, 24h. External sources support fewer and say so.

## How honest the backtest is

* A signal read at one candle's close is filled at the **next candle's open**. No peeking.
* Fees are charged on both sides (launchpad default 1% per side).
* Price impact is ignored, so thin markets look better on paper than in life.
* Under five closed trades, or under 100 candles, the result carries a warning. A backtest describes the past; it is not a promise.

## Turning it on

Pick **Charts & backtests** when you create the agent. The Trader and Analyst presets include it. Watch the work on the agent's live desktop under **Trading**.

## Coming soon

A hosted external algorithm engine (QuantConnect LEAN) for heavier strategies. It needs a hosted .NET service with a chain-native brokerage plugin and per-creator isolation, so it is listed as Coming soon rather than faked.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.elevateelysium.xyz/your-agent/charts-backtests.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
